About Me

John J. Byrne LCSW, JD.

I received my master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Fordham University. As a licensed psychotherapist in Delaware, I have 15 years of experience in helping individuals navigate mental health challenges.

Throughout the duration of my career, I have worked in a variety of clinical settings. I have been a Clinical Team Leader at Child Guidance, a Clinician and Behavior Specialist at Benhaven Inc., and an Outpatient Therapist at Jewish Family Services. During this time, I also managed to coach, graduate from law school and become a lawyer, and win a USATF Club National Championship.

Most recently, I spent the last four years as an Individual Outpatient Therapist at Delaware Psychological Services, where I helped individuals navigate stress, depression and conflict. I am a firm believer in using a combination of mindfulness and evidenced based clinical models in order to help you regain your emotional well-being and manage and accomplish your goals. In addition to being a therapist, I have a background that transcended the path of your traditional psychotherapist, which helps me build relationships and connect with clients in a way that ensures your therapeutic journey is comfortable.

I founded Lewes Mental Health in order to make my services available to the entirety of Delaware via my virtual therapy platform.

Benefits to Therapy

Therapy is more than just talking. It helps you heal, grow, and understand yourself better. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a helpful way to treat depression and anxiety by changing negative thoughts. Some people feel more comfortable talking to a male CBT therapist, which can make it easier to open up. This type of therapy teaches better ways to cope, builds strength, and improves your overall well-being. It helps you see things more clearly and deal with daily stress in a healthier way. Over time, it can lead to a happier, more balanced life for men and women.
